Now this has the potential to open up a nasty can of worms so I apologize in advance but, what appeals to you about Pokemon designwise? Aesthetically speaking what makes a Pokemon, Pokemon?

Also please try not to turn this into mudslinging, I just want to know what you like, not what you don't so please refrain from shitting on stylistic choices you personally do not like.

When I was young I found the simple designs to be the most appealing. Something that looks like it'd make for a cute pet. Nothing overly elaborate. Charmander was my first Pokémon and it was great, Charmeleon I like too, but Charizard, I dunno, there's just something unappealing about its proportions I think.

Now that I'm older I just look for waifubait that gets my dick wet.

What makes a monster in our world? Usually we tag them based on myths, urban legends, and cultural phenomena. Take the Hoenn Weather Trio: Three ancient beasts based off of the ancient Hebrew myths of Leviathan, Behemoth and Zyzz. Also look at the most Ghost-type Pokemon: A majority of them are based on the human fear of haunted or cursed items, like dolls, masks, electronics, even a sword!

But sometimes the monster isn't something that is far out but reminds us of things close by. Birds, fossils, snakes, tortises...theres a biological concept that backs these ones up.

Some of them even are ahead of the curve, referencing themselves to the point where it only makes sense in a world inhabited by these powerful creatures. I'm specifically referring to Pokemon like Ditto, Mimikyu and Mewtwo; Pokemon that exist because of the actions and behaviors of humans that exist within their world.

TL:DR it's more on concept then implementation for me

Pic related are my favorites. It's tough to define. I like mons that can combine a couple of key traits together in an interesting way. Lore may not be part of the immediate design either, but it definitely contributes to my appreciation of it.

I like mons that can more easily define themselves and be distinguished amongst the crowd. Slowbro always stuck out to me in Gen I, and its concept was so neat and bizarre that it became my favorite.

Looking over this image of 10 of my favorites, I think I like matching color schemes, white/light colored fur/feathers/whatever, and horns or other head protrusions. In a way I just like the animalistic designs that take an inspiration from real world organisms and turn them into monsters. (Pocket Monsters)

Typing is important too and can take a design I like, for example Decidueye, and elevate it to new heights. It doesn't look too ghostly but it being a grass archer owl with spooky ghost characteristics makes it way cooler to me than if it was slightly different and grass/flying or something. Typing defines Pokemon.

Ice and fire are probably my two favorite types and I've been waiting so many years to get a fire/ice type. I hope it's something cool and not a legendary since I like to use Pokemon that can actually be bred more.

I really enjoy monsters. Muks, Garbador, Palosand, wheezing etc.
And I really enjoy the Animalistic ones. Tauros, miltank, Ursaring.

What I don't like is the waifu ones. By all means, you can like what you like. But the mount of people who flock to these things and fetishise them feels weird to me.

Well it's a bit of both.
I see the same stuff on other sites. Admittedly it's the vocal minority that act on this stuff. But that's what you see the most. When you have something which would be cool like a Salazzle, then when you search it. There's fifty pictures of them sitting on peoples face. It kind of kills the mood of it a little bit when you see these things as monsters and not really sex objects.
That being said, people can jack to whatever they jack to, I have my own kinks.

It's just what some of the pokemon have been labeled to have. While I still can appreciate the pokemon, having these things tied to them, effects the overall appeal.

If I were to use an extreme example. The hindu swastika, Because of the Nazi Swastika it's no longer acceptable to walk around with it on your shirt.
Same thing applies to some pokemon, regardless of how I may view them, the overall feel around the pokemon ruin it.
