I don't get why /vp/ would be mad if she returned in gen 8, she'll likely be just a cameo like Cynthia and Red were in SM. It's not like she's hogging the eventual story of gen 8.

If the merchandising and the fact the ending was changed because people were asking for her is any indication, I'd say she's pretty super popular.
That said, I doubt they'd be able to milk her flat chest once gen 8 rolls around.

She is popular but lets not act like we dont have popular characters and Pokemon each gen

Gen 6 was all about Serena, Archie, Korrina and Greninja and Braixen
Now Gen 7 is all about Lillie, Gladion, Guzma, Lycanroc, Mimikyu

You're not taking into account how pathetic most of the fanbase is. If you force a helpless loli on the MC in the story, they're going to adore her no matter how shitty of a character she is or how detrimental she was to the story and experience as a whole of gen 7.
