Actually it's just as reasonable to assume they didn't and believed the lies about it having as much new content as Emerald and Platinum.

And that even if they didn't believe they lies they were hoping for a complete game, rather than a rushed beta like S/M. Which it was and most people recognize that and say so even if they dislike what it is. US/UM are what S/M should have been. Would have been if not for anniversary rushing.

This. People keep saying it must be beloved because of sales, but I have been seeing more and more videos than ever criticizing them calling them shit, and so many lets players just dropped it before even getting to the second island because everyone found it boring. Pokemon Go boost was to blame for this

Agree. Red/blue is 1 game, Gold/Silver is 1 game etc. The difference between Ruby and Sapphire is whether or not it rains. It's amazing how many people boast of buying both versions because "hurhurr poorfags" but write SM off as a $40 dlc.

At least the changes aren't literally swapping the box legendaries and NPC's around.
