Is this it for Pokemon? I wasn't expecting much, but the Switch games are shaping up to be even worse than SuMo. Instead of delivering a classic Pokemon experience, Gamefreak continues to dumb things down and pander to casuals.

I am a lifelong Pokemon fan. But if this is really the direction the mainline games are going, then I'm done with the franchise. I guess nothing lasts forever.

Alright, seriously, what does this even mean? Commercialized? Of course it's commercialized. Do you think they make games because they have nothing better to do? Because pouring hundreds and hundreds of manhours into something with absolutely no concern over making a profit is their passion? Would a new region with new Pokemon somehow not be commercialized? You're about two decades too late to start complaining about commercialization. As for it being "kiddie crap", again, not sure what you're really complaining about here. The series has always been directed at children. Yes, there's depth for older players who can want to concern themselves with such things, but that audience has never been the focus. What makes this one any more "kiddie crap" than the others?

You can dislike the return to Kanto all you want, it's a totally legitimate thing to take issue with. But the rest of what you said is utter nonsense.

How? The last two generations have followed that exact pattern. You might not like specifics like the number of Pokemon and stuff like that but that right there is micromanaging, wishlist bullshit. Stop applying arbitrary standards and restrictions on the people making the games. Just because you want 150~ new Pokemon doesn't mean the game is any worse because there are less new Pokemon than that. Also your "pattern" there seems to be totally ignoring remakes, which have been a thing since 2004.

My guess, is that this has been in the work as a side project likely a year before the switch was even announced, at least on paper. Thats how they can get a Pokemon game ready on Switch for 2018. They were likely making this in crunch time whilst they were making Ultra Sun and Moon.
Probably explains why USUM is so low on extra content.
