Anything not chinese, I would like it to be based on something american (either continent) since chinese lore had the focus of gen 5 but anything african, european, etc works too.

I'd like to see a champ with Emboar as his/her signature mon
Generally GF could promote unloved starters and integrate them into the games more by doing stuff like that. The champ could be from Unova.

I want the entire region to be very rural and classic China save for one huge futuristic city of elites in the middle.

I can also see them doing something like "Spirit Pokémon", which are ghost-like formes of existing Pokémon that are bosses like Totems. They are found in mini-temples and they gain a Ghost typing when you battle them.
Only when you beat them, you can call on them to help you go through the region. Spirit of Arcanine for example can help you ride through the region. Spirit of Gogoat can help you climb rugged hills. Using these mons can also help you find hidden items and rare Pokémon.
