1. There are a lot of Japanese people and they're going to be who you're fighting 90% of the time
2. Basically everyone is a meta slave and uses cookie cutter Showdown tier sets
Also the meta is really aggressive since it's 3v3s. I always picked non-meta things and did fine so don't let "Mimikyu/Megazard/Megamence" discourage you from trying it out.
