If it were in Bandai's hands then yes I could see it happening. Digimon is more than happy to change something to fit the lore or for game play.

But Gamefrreak's far to xenophobic to ever do a crossover with Digimon. Despite Pokemon having lore worst than your standard free2play mmorpg they are far to afraid to retcon/revisit bad decisions from the past.
