However, the game makes up for this in other ways.
It's the first 3D RPG in the series. And it actually does interesting things with its design by having cities be elaborate and expansive with lots of content and dungeons and such. And it actually has a somewhat interesting (for a pokemon game) story, and accomplishes it without 3 hours of forced tutorials ala S/M
It is almost entirely double battles. My problem in other games with doubles is that the games never commit to them. Why should I build any pokemon for doubles strategies when I only do a few double battles in each game? This made Colo feel a lot fresher
It gets more difficult, and I'd say it's definitely the hardest vanilla pokemon game in the series. I also think part of the reason for this is how the game limits you to johtomons, and you end up with a newfound appreciation for pokemons that you'd normally dismiss.
