I liked it as a kid but as I got older I realized that giving pants, armor, guns, missiles, blades, fire breath, and human proportions to everything as they got stronger didn't necessarily make a design fun or more interesting/cool. The creatures talking was also kind of lame. Pokemon only saying their names is equally bad, but I prefer to imagine they make animal noises like in Stadium/Generations.
Also Pokemon was just more accessible; I always had a Gameboy but not always a Playstation.
