Can anybody else legitimately not see themselves playing Pokémon without nuzlocke rules?

It feels like there are no stakes at all in normal playthroughs. I don’t really have this problem with Yokai Watch or Digimon oddly

I'll probably Nuzlocke on Shield since I don't have a hacked Switch.

Based, OP. For a while I only played like that because I felt the game was too easy. HOWEVER, I noticed that playing on "Set" and obviously immediately turning off Exp Share if it's Gen VI or VII, as well as keeping a party of 5 mon on balanced levels always, AND trying to use Pokémon mostly based on appearance instead of power, end up in a fun and not so overwhelmingly easy experience. I recommend you trying it. I still have to ban X-Items, though.

I play the games by catching every avaikable Pokémon in a route that I can, and evolving them if I can or should. So nuzlockes are not viable.
