Less Moves = Greater strength of the moves you have. Having all four move slots full gives them their normal power. Having only three boosts the power/effects of those three moves (for example, attacking moves gains a 10% or 15% boost to power, while status moves have their own separate form of boosting). The effects grows with the less moves you have, sacrificing variety and utility for sheer power.
Choice items are retired for obvious reasons.
