Square is skilled but misguided - they will never be the Squaresoft of old (and it's likely no developer will ever have so many pieces come together in the right place again), but they're at least making an effort to live up to the name. FF7R, DQ11, the Tokyo RPG Factory trilogy show they're going in the right direction despite some recent failures.

Game Freak on the other hand is incompetent and lazy - and proud of it. They're a studio going absolutely fucking nowhere as far as software quality goes. As studios of similar stature work to create impressive passion projects with what they're given, GF is content to sit on their laurels and collect a paycheck because their games will always sell on name alone, no matter how poor the final product is.
