>>39021169since xy and bank functionality hit full use, I'd pick a pokemon that I liked the look of and wanted to use in a playthrough, but it either didn't make the team cut for being gotten too late and too low a level or being the wrong type to go well in the team, and breed it to get a moderately good level 1 with no egg moves or evs. I'd put it in bank, start over, pick a different starter, grab that level 1 I wanted to use, and then build a different team with those remaining four slots for yet more new pokemon I wanted to try.
if the next game came out, say oras as it was a gen remake, I'd pick a few new ones, do the egg treatment, grab a personal favorite at level 1 to box the starters I'd played with on original release, and complete the game with the four or five I hadn't gotten to use yet in a different region with whatever new toys they got. save a space for the new legendary's forms just to try them out.
did it again in SM and yet again in USUM. I overwhelmingly prefer to play this way, and wanted to use a Fomantis to go along with Sobble, then make a team of four other new ones and proceed from there doing however many playthroughs like that.
This change completely shatters that method. Trying new things isn't an argument, a very small set wants to beat the game's story with muh level 100s, everyone else wants to bring in what they like post game more than anything else. to say otherwise is just trying to fabricate an argument.
