Some were outright broken, others were outright shit and even some were inferior than their former form.
They didn't balance the game or did justice.

Megas were a mistake.

Mega Pidgeot, Primal Kyogre, and Charizard were objective improvements over their former forms. The rest were incredibly unattractive.

I'll never not be mad that that Pidgeot doesn't look like Mega Pidgeot or have its stats.

I really enjoyed the idea of primal Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza from a lore standpoint and the idea of starters receiving a buff.
I wish some of those were made into actual useful evolutions like Banette, Lopunny, Medicham, Heracross,

I know not every design has to be perfect like Mega Beedrill and Blaziken or look mediocre like Mega Aerodactyl and Manectric but what they did to Latios and Latias is a crime.

I hated the idea of megas when it was first announced. It seemed like a lazy Digimon ripoff, an easy nostalgia grab, and it robbed us of more new, original Pokémon. But they’ve been a part of the game for 6 years and 8 core series titles now, for better or worse, and removing them out of nowhere for an even lazier replacement is ridiculous and unjustified.

The best megas are ones that added new stratetic elements to the pokemon such as a new type or a complementary ability.

Mindgames of whether you would evolve your Manectric to get Intimidate or keep Lightning Rod was great, for example.

Then there was the garbage that added nothing besides stats and "deal more damage" abilities. Aeriliate, Pixiliate, Tough Claws... pure unbalanced trash.

Since they're culling Pokemon, I wish they would get rid of all those dull abilities.
