Corviknight and Cramorant aren't really "characters". Most of them aren't really characters (even Sirfetch'd, it just has a smug face and a big lance, and something like Krokorok also has a smug face and crossed arms), but a lot of them are cartoony. It's a lack of balance so far, there's a lot of silly cartoony mons but less of the edgy or tough mons we usually get. Gen 6 was probably the last to have a good balance, but even gen 7 had a fair few tough or intimidating mons.
I hope that they've just not revealed some of the more cool mons, since I'm not fond of most of the gen 8 ones so far. I like silly mons as well but not when every mon is a meme.
