The artstyle was at its peak, everything is new but the same at its core at the same time. Objectively, it WAS innovative, maybe too much. It didn't help that the anime went down the same route after having Ash lose a bullshit battle when he was at his peak and then turn into a rookie (plus new "kawaii" artstyle). By the time BW2 came out nobody cared because the DS was also in the end of its lifespan and Unova was already hated.
Unlike XY which started the kanto pandering faggotry, BW is what people always want, yet they hated it. People deserve what they get, they couldn't appreciate something new
