While I think it does sound like Sword and Shield might be a step down (not sure yet though), it wasn't enough for me to not buy the game.

I also didn't like gen 5/7 that much but loved gen 6.

USUM. The marketing campaign was extremely suspicious and when the game was dumped, I was glad I didn't buy but still disappointed with GF and have only lost more goodwill towards them since then.

During Gen IV. I really liked Diamond but it became clear to me that Pokemon had fundamentally changed for me in a way that wasn't going to be fun anymore.

Didn’t play USUM or LGPE, still on the fence about SWSH.. the 3DS titles were rather unfulfilling I definitely feel like my enjoyment peaked during the DS era. Been trying to stay with the series in hopes of thoroughly enjoying a mainline title again but at this point I think I’ve just outgrown the series. I still go back to previous titles and enjoy them though.

B/W. I know I would've liked the sequels a lot better but that's when the formula got stale for me. I still follow the series though cause it was such a huge part of my childhood. Might still buy a mainline game in the future, who knows.

S/M was my final entry. I thought X/Y was poor and ORAS embarrassing, but S/M was the first one I just never finished, never even got off the first island. From where I hear the direction is going with the new release, might not buy another Pokemon again.

After playing Diamond. I enjoyed it enough, but even as a young teenager I could see the writing on the wall. I bought SS for muh childhood, and was rewarded, but I'm glad that I've stuck to playing romhacks since then. Much more enjoyable as experiences go desu.

Bought USUM because I was stupid and also because I wanted to keep up with the online, but I skipped LGPE because I didn't have a switch at the time and I'm skipping SS because it looks like shit. I hope the next games improve drastically but I know they won't. I'll probably mess around on showdown a bit because battles against players is the only thing remotely good about this fucking series at this point, but screw paying sixty bucks for a thirty dollar game in addition to paying 20 bucks for online. Yes I know its yearly but I just don't have enough games with online options that I play often enough to justify it on my tight budget.

I stopped after XY. I bought ORAS and SM secondhand, years after release. They were both pretty disappointing so I don't feel like I missed out on much. I didn't even finish ORAS because it was so boring.

Pirated S/M and US/UM
SwSh crossed the line, I'm done with the series now.

I had a blast during the Gen 4 era with the Platinum, Soul Silver, Mystery Dungeon, and Ranger spinoffs, but we're never getting that kind of quality again. It's just gachashit, PokeGo, and the shitshow that is SwSh

Earlier this year.
Y was the first pokemon I didn't beat and I was ready to drop the series then, but I gave them another chance for SM and managed to get something slightly better.
Thought they could pull something off since it seemed like they were making a little progress, but after E3 all hope was gone. I'm finished.
