This is basically what I did, only rotating based on evolution and dex completion.

Evolves at 10. Evolves at 15. Evolves at 20. Evolves at 25. Evolves at 30. Evolves at 40. so on and so forth. Catch 1 of every family you can find, lowest stage you can. Every time you evolve all the stuff you've caught of a particular Evolve level group, move to the next one.

By the end you have a livingdex of all fully evolved, most if not all of your dex filled, and your levels are always going to be at or below the trainers or wild.

After that, difficulty comes down to the mons you use. People say it’s piss easy and they’re right, most mons are easy to slap the story with. But if you build a team of the shitmons everyone ignores, it’s a whole different story.

I had ~20 Pokémon I consistently switched out of my team and I had a lot of fun, was always at the level of Wild Pokémon too and lower than Gyn Leaders nearly every time.

Though you’ll need to grind a ton for Leon

Thievul, Flapple, Sandaconda, Pincurchin, Boltund, Male Indeedee, Cursola and Eiscue are some of the worst competitively. Haven't used any of them in-game, though.

Some that aren't good but are not AS shit: Greedent, Orbeetle, Dubwool, Cramorant, Toxtricity, Centiskorch, Polteageist, Mr Rime, Stonjourner.

sudowoodo actually carried my team for a while. I caught one a bonsly in a 3-star raid when I first started, it already knew mimic so evolved immediately, it was nearly the highest level I could control, learned wood hammer stoneedge and hammer arm as relearner moves, and fully evolved BST at that.

It was great.

Got outclassed very quickly though. I wonder if that's what it felt like to use route1 bugs in gen1. I never liked them so I would just catch, evolve for dex, box.

Then again my team was Centiskorch, Gimmsnarl, Jellicent, Corviknight, Abomasnow, Toxtricity so maybe I've just got a super NU team this gen without even trying.

Yeah Flapple is basically the glass cannon alternative to appletun, but it's way too slow for that build.
Appletun's best attack stat is only slightly lower and it also gets way more bulk, making it a much more reliable and versatile mon. It being a good counter to dracovish is wonderful, too.

Toxtricity is definitely one of the less shitty ones I mentioned, but yeah it's not that great. It's actually pretty similar to Flapple in that it has a glass cannon build, but isn't fast enough to make great use of that. Again, my only experience with these pokemon is competitive and in-game sure isn't at the same stakes. Pretty much any mon is fine in-game.

Also the game is somewhat easy, but the raids are actually extremely difficult and enjoyable if you only use certain mons

1. Max level and number of mons is dictated by the gym leader. For example you can only fight Nessa with 3 mons, up to Lv27.
2. When you win a badge you MUST take your higher level mon out and replace him with something else you never used.
3. No Dynamax. Not even against Dynamax pokemon.
4. Sell the game and buy something actually good.
