ITT we build a team for Red

Now that everyone seems to hate his classic team and know beforehand what to expect whenever he shows, let's build Red a new team.
Try to stick to Pokémon Red is most likely to have on his team for his Kanto advenure (Fossilmon, Game Corner prizes, even Safarimon, etc)
The less headcanon the better.
Don't take the manga or other adaptations as absolute truth.
You can use Mewtwo, but only for a rematch team.

Charizard would still make the most sense because Red is basically a mirror of the players of Red/Blue and most of them picked Charmander.

Pikachu because I can't imagine THE Representative of Pokémon Trainers without THE Representative of Pokémon. I would agree with making it a Raichu tho if needed to make the battle more challenging.

A fossil, and for this one I'd pick Kabutops because it seems more threatening to me and would make for a good challenge.

Dragonite just to give his team a bit more well-rounded Power, but also because I'd like to imagine Red learned a thing or two from Lance about dragons.

Poliwrath for a representation of the Adventures manga and the bond Red and his Poli share in there, also because he would need a pokemon to surf around with (Yes I know he already has a water type and Dragonite but this one shares more of a backstory with him)

Lastly, honestly Mewtu or Mew. But also i feel as if that's just a lazy way of making him a challenge so I'll say Clefairy/Clefable instead, another reference to the first Pocket Monsters manga.

Since he already has a grass type, might as well cover the others. I think Lapras is the most obvious water type choice, as it's a gift Pokemon.

He would also need a fire type then. As seen in Blue's champion team in Red and Blue, Arcanine is considered a standard power choice, so it'll work here.

With those 3 down, it's time to look at other types. Snorlax would make sense as it is a necessary encounter, it can be member 4.

For pokemon 5, I think a trade evolution would work. Since Blue has Alakazam, Red could have Machamp.

That leaves 1, and seeing as its type fits in the team I think Dragonite works. The game could say that Lance gave it to Red after he became champion, and it makes sense that he would have one of the strongest non-legendary Kanto Pokemon.

This makes Red's final team
>Venusaur
>Lapras
>Arcanine
>Snorlax
>Machamp
>Dragonite

I like this team becaise it uses some established Pokemon, but also has a few suprises, while having a decent reason for each member.

A early-route birdmon now, everyone has those! Fearow, Green already has a Pidgeot anyway, so it's cool to have some of Red's Pokemon mirror Green's.

Pikachu is the mascot, i don't need to explain myself, make it a Raichu if you want but i don't really care.

Hitmonlee, obviously got it from the fake Gym in Saffron, i think it works, Machamp could also work as a mirror to Alakazam, but idk

Snorlax, it's a Pokemon most people catch in the first place, it just makes sense.

Now for the last Pokemon im feeling either Kabutops or Lapras, i feel Lapras would fit more though, as since he'd receive one earlier, i don't see why he would replace it.

that makes:

>Hitmonlee
>Snorlax
>Lapras

There are other teams i think could work pretty well though, such as:

6 slots sometimes can feel really small.
