The anime is even more explicit with Rose's actions. He latches onto young trainers he sees talent in and tries to get them on his side so that they can eventually help catch Eternatus for him. Leon was the one this was most clear with but he tried and failed with Ash. Bede was likely a similar story, just one of many talented youths Rose planned to use for his ambitions.

I liked that theory too. Marnie's stuff in SwSh is probably the only story beat I like (Oleanna's would have been nice if it were actually explored) but it felt awkward not having a true royal family in a region based on the UK. It's kind of what they're known best for.

"Power Crisis 10000 years in the future" is not the game's story though. It's just the excuse for the championship battle to be interrupted. The actual story focus is all on the Sports Anime stuff, down to literally every character having someone they look up to/want to impress.
