You go onto the shores of a beach and see two figures. Upon further investigation, you find out it’s a Slowking and Oranguru. The people from the town around the beach tell you that every so often, these two intellectual rivals come to have a debate. No one knows what they argue about but they see that it can get heated to the point of these usually calm Pokémon getting violent. They ask you if you have a Pokémon that can match wits with them.

Once you bring something highly intelligent like Alakazam or Metagross, your Pokémon will be let out of its Pokéball and join the discussion. After waiting, it seems like your Pokémon has gotten too involved as well. You go over and your Pokémon tells you the source of their debate: which is smarter; Oranguru or Slowking? Your Pokémon uses telepathy to tell you each Pokémon’s argument and then you have to decide who is superior. Depending on who you choose, you get a different item and that Pokémon decides to join your team.

Later in the post game, the Pokémon you didn’t choose comes back to challenge you as it was getting stronger both physically and mentally while you became Champion. Once you defeat it, it will give you the other item and go back to its home.

If you return a third time, it will ask to battle one more time to be caught so it can join its rival.
