Your first mistake is assuming charizard fans exist. Nobody is as obsessed with charizard as the people who hate it. Anyone you see talking about it in the way that picture does is either a troll or literal child incapable of understanding more than what they see in the show/games

Almost all fans I saw recently have basically the same tastes and modus-operandi in the social media:
>Bipedal dragons, furbaits and lewd Pokémon (like Gardevoir or Hatterene) on the top
>Some cute Pokémon (mostly cats, dogs, rodents or animals overall) between their favourites
>That one Pokémon who is none of the above but they must pretend they don't hate it because apparently no one else does and they fear losing followers. But at the end of the day they never talk about that Pokémon
>Their least favourites are any Pokémon else, including any goofy Pokémon, objectmons and bearded Pokémon (beards are not cute and non-coomable). Bonus points if they shit on these Pokémon they think nobody likes, just to see a fan of that Pokémon replying them. The modus-operandi there is or these people deleting the message blocking the fan

Makes you think if they actually hate Pokémon but it's the only way they can get some attention

In the case of Smash and Pokken, sure.

But if anything, new forms like Megas and Giga should've been used to prop up less popular and/or lesser used Pokémon.
Not to constantly keep the same few Pokémon in the spotlight forever.
At this point the "it's popular" argument just feels like circular logic.

Nah. There are unpopular Pokémon that would work better outside the RPG mechanics where they have a limit of 2 attack animations that you can even overlook because of the camera movements.

A popular Pokémon getting plushies and merchandise overall is a logical step, but using only popular Pokémon for everything become the newer products boring and gives Pokémon players the bad habit to think only a few Pokémon matter. It's a bad decision for a game proud of their hundreds of designs

All Pokerides are Pokémon present in the Alola Pokedex. All except one: Charizard, who according the NPCs they export them from other regions for this purpose.
