Nidoking is really good in PVP, being one of the best stallbreakers. Nidoqueen is also pretty good, but a little outclassed by Nidoking.
Both of them are fantastic in PVE. Some of the best in-game Pokemon of all time.

In game they've always been quite reliable. Competitively they got Sheer Force in Gen 5 and have a massive special movepool to take advantage of so they're pretty good.

Both Nidoking and Nidoqueen have been viable for competitive use since they got Sheer Force in Gen 5. Generally, Nidoking is better for Singles and Nidoqueen is better for Doubles.

They're both great in pve. Pretty good stats and learnpools mean they're always useful, if only as hm slaves in some gens.

They're a little lackluster in competitive right now as their best ability doesn't work with Dynamax and they don't have the support moves to be useful otherwise. They also can't hang with the restricted mons.
