Pokemon definitely won't attack you. It was only really done for the theme of PLA as an old, dangerous, untamed world where humans and pokemon were enemies. As for other overworld interactions it's hard to say. We've seen Lechonk approach a trainer so perhaps the basic AI of some pokemon approaching and some running is still around.

It's admitedly strange to include a trainer creeping behind a pokemon in their trailer for their new games if they are not going to include some semblance of PLA mechanics.

It reads like they wanted to show that the stealth catching mechanics are still present in the new game's gameplay, why else would they include such a blatant reference?

That would make it Ruby Sun and Sapphire Moon.
Even with the setbacks, SV will be great by virtue of being a real Pokemon game and not visual novel garbage.

Really this divide is because there's two groups of fans.
Those who enjoy catching DMV collecting lots of Pokemon
Those who enjoy training and battling Pokemon.
These don't seem at odds, but the latter group often actually works prefer to catch as few Pokemon as possible, instead putting effort into a small group of elites.

you can literally run away, use sticky globs, hide in bushes, use stealth spray, use smoke bombs, or just fucking kill it. the game gave you multitude of ways to deal with that. The bosses werent great but nothing about them was exceedingly bad.

The actual fight for volo ends at 10:18 and even then had a cutscene in it so the actual fight time was much shorter. In general battles in SWSH were slower with pauses literally after anything appears on screen or you press any button. But Legends also does some other things like playing the move text while the animation is happening, removing abilities also helped a lot for battle speed.

heres someone playing in set mode then, point still stands. its not just that btw, its the ability popup, the item activation pop up, theres so many things that slow down the battles.

Key difference is that it's far far easier to catch Pokemon in pla. Throwing a normal pokeball at a full health wild Pokemon just doesn't work in the main series. You could include all these mechanics yes, but it's hard to justify building your game around a bunch of systems like that for an extremely small chance to capture.
On the other hand, keeping the increased chance to catch would render the classic act of battling wild Pokemon meaningless. In PLA this is forced on you if you miss your capture and get spotted. But this rarely comes up in actual gameplay.
Far more than the ability to catch Pokemon outside of battle. I think the real thing that made pla feel good was how fast battles started, and how much more modern and streamlined the menu design was. We have yet to see a battle transition in SV. Since battles still take place in the overworld is likely just as fast, with the only difference being the need to walk up to the Pokemon to initiate battle instead of throwing a pokeball to initiate battle.

This. It brought something new to the table for catching pokemon. Some need to be engaged in combat and others you need to employ stealth for. Different strategies for catching different pokemon made approaching them fun. It's also neat as you transition into the late game where you have gigaton balls and sticky globs to avoid having bigger threats like alphas fuck up your whole party.

Leons battle goes from 1:09-8:46, a total of 457 seconds
Volos battle has a giant cutscene in the middle of it, excluding that cutscene his battle goes from 1:49-5:43(234 seconds) and 7:07-10:08(181 seconds), a total of 415 seconds. 42 seconds shorter than Leons battle. Keep in mind that Volos battle was against 8 pokemon and still managed to be shorter than Leons, if we only counted the first 6 then the battle wouldve been 234 seconds long. Practically half of Leons

Youre being disingenuous, if it was just that one thing then there wouldnt be an issue, its several things that pile up and make swsh feel slow. This is why Legends was a breath of fresh air for many people because it finally got rid of all the fluff

Also make battles give more exp, I think that solves the issue. Also shouldnt it be encouraged that GF is giving the players more ways to play? If someone would rather focus on catching than battling I think thats a perfectly fine way to play the games. They just have to tweak it so that one option doesnt completely overshadow the other

So Leons battle where the player 1 shot the first 5 mons still managed to be slower than a battle in Legends where the player had to set up Dark Void every turn before killing the other mon. Great job supporting yourself
