when i replay i dont care i just pick whatever i feel like using so I have used most of them already, except S/M and the following games because pokemon is dead to me past S/M desu

Usually I make a choice based on the initial form, then look at the evos to see if they're terrible and I need to change my mind. So far I've consistently stuck with my first choice in every game except one, Sprigatito might make that 2. My favorites have been:
> Bulbasaur (although I've used all 3)
> Totodile (initially used Cyndaquil in my first playthrough, but mainly because I didn't want forced HMs in my starter)
>Mudkip (all 3 are good)
>Turtwig (all 3 are good)
>Oshawott
>Chespin (with Squirtle in my first run)
>Rowlett, then Litten in USUM
>Grookey
>H. Samurott

Final forms gotta look cool but the dealbreaker is the typing. Non-Steel monotypes are gay. Sceptile is pretty cool but I will probably never actually use it because it's pure Grass

As a kid I only chose fires, then started choosing by initial stages which worked for the evolutions too which i always deemed the best (even when i didn't watch them on purpose cause i didn't want any spoiler from the games)

Nowadays Im just inclined to pick the manliest guy which is the coolest and the best for me when choosing first time, otherwise I go by how I feel but the latest generations tend to have only 1 pick which is decent
