Checkout the romhack Pokeluv which is a sort of pseudo prequel to this hack in terms of some of it's ideas, and the developer is one of the lead devs for this project.
I mostly play older RPGs and games with a strong focus on questing and worldbuilding. Other developers have backgrounds in tabletop. We're trying to add those elements to Pokemon because frankly the whole series is lacking. Check a bookshelf in the pokemon center and get told "There's some books here." is not world building, instead you might get more context about the town, a small story, a tip, etc.
