Could pokemon work if you could put passive moves in your moveslots?

Also what passive moves would work in pokemon.

Isn't leech seed something like that? What if we have a move which gives the user a vampiric cloak? Whenever a pokemon makes contact with it, wether it is attacking or defending, the user tskes a bit of HP from the opponent. Make it a bulky physical attacker.

No, passives work like pokemon abilities, they are active by default, you don't have to manually set their effects with an input

It's not about resultant effects, its about means of activation. An action is an input that you choose to activate at a given turn. A passive skill will be active constantly or will be triggered by another effect indirectly.
Abilities like Drought or Huge Power would be considered a passive skill.
Moves like Sunny Day or Swords Dance woud be considered an action.
Each has the same effect respectively.

Abilities already accomplish the implementation of passive effects. Passive moves in the Atlus games make sense as there's a lot more moveslots available to utilize compared to the Pokemon series.

But if we're just taking up a hypothetical, existing moves like mud sport to weaken electric moves or focus energy to buff the critical hit rate are good choices. Having weather moves turn passive would mostly hinder the point of weather abilities.

Just let Pokémon have variable numbers of abilities.

But also knowing Fly gives you Levitate

i don't understand why it's okay for this ability to double the base power of every single physical attack int the game but it's not okay for Iron Fist and other such abilities to have a boost higher than 20% or 30%. Azumarill has a shit attack stat? here's an idea, give it an actual stat buff so the ability slot can instead go to an actual proper ability instead. either that or nerf Huge Poer so that it only does a 15% or 20% boost or something

You sacrifice a move slot for a permament effect?
Sounds interesting, but some autistic content creators and their mindless content consumers would have a mental diarrhea over how their choices are limited by having less than 3 moves.

Not all of them, but Masters has a lot of good ideas towards a baseline. Many are real abilities renamed, though way too much in that list compared to what would fit here. Names are surprisingly great
>Ridicure - Heals a bit of HP when opponent misses or fails to attack
>Critastrophe - Power up the move when it becomes a critical hit.
>Freevenge - No cost when previously hit by opponent
>Smart Cookie - the more Sp. Def is raised, the more it powers up moves
>Sunscreen - reduced damage under sunny weather
>Victory Lap - next move will be Critical Hit when it knocks out an opponent with a move
>Fail Foward - Charges up when an opponent attack move misses
>Stat's Quo - change to return lowered stats to normal
