Infinite TM is good. It allows for a more fluid team formation instead of keeping a mon because I gave it EQ earlier and not many learn it naturally. Also solves the hoarding issue where you don't give the move a chance because it could serve a better mon later.
The only knock off designs that come to mind are the rock and fighting 3 stage trade evos. Amoongus if you want to consider being the new overworld pokeball a knock off of voltorb line.
I liked the story. It felt more grounded than Cyrus' destroy the world and Aqua/Magma's autistic obsession with water/land. It's a return to team rocket with faggier designs and more melodrama. Unlike rocket they have a story outside of big plot points. They feel like they are really causing trouble in the region and not just sillph company, game corner and lavander.
The exploration being left to only the dungeons was shit yeah. Even after getting all HMs I remember going to a route, finding a waterfall or two and maybe pushing a boulder. There are some exceptions but very few new dungeons or high level areas to sink your teeth into.
Mid route healers is a convenience. Did you enjoy going back to town to heal in older games?
