The additional problem with this, especially for stuff like SM, is that the games' stories and characters are becoming more elaborate, while Kusaka has less and less time and only one monthly magazine to adapt the story. Forty chapters isn't enough for a Pokemon story without making some serious changes to the original version, and Kusaka isn't doing anything about it.
No, modern "volume additions" isn't guaranteed to rectify these issues. XY and BW didn't get nearly as much content as the magazine versions of older arcs like GSC or RS, and that might represent a real trend.
