It sold in spite of the art style, not because of it. Another anon once said: they could make a Pokemon game where Ghetsis walks out against an empty background and says "NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER" before the game permanently crashes, and it would still sell well because it happens to be a Pokemon game. But that doesn't mean it's an optimal business decision to do that.

Literally not true. Word of mouth would be enough to stop people from buying the game, and the game would never get past the ratings system.

I like how there's autists not understanding that the ghetsis post is hyperbole making fun of the fact there's thousands of individuals who have openly declared that they'll eat up any game with the Pokemon branding on it. Yes, it won't literally happen the same way Pokemon won't literally ship a game that's a turd in a box. But there's people out there who would buy it in this hypothetical scenario.
