Tera, Megas, Z-Moves and Dynamax are all cool, the problem is that they keep throwing away what they have to add something new rather than developing the system more thoroughly into something cohesive.

They keep trying to find interesting and relevant ways to selectively apply a power up during combat to a single mon, but they just throw them away after each gen.

And that's unironically a good thing. Pokemon would be an unplayable clusterfuck right now if all the gimmicks had stayed.

mark my words, they're going to start recycling gimmicks now instead of coming up with more new ones. megas in ZA herald this, presumably they will return in Gen 10 so that new megas introduced in ZA can be used in pvp. I really think now that they'll just cycle through the existing gimmicks rather than come up with new ones. 4 gimmicks to cycle through means they each can have a rest and feel fresh when they're brought back. Gen 10 will have megas, Gen 11 z-moves and so on. I'll eat my shoe if I'm not right.

you know...they would have implemented that system far better if they actually made the use of aura a feature of pokemon games.
instead of a stone, it is your actual aura and power you cultivated alongside your pokemons, thus explaining why it is temporary, shit they could have explained the ash greninja shit with aura as an explanation and put that bond as a reason why pokemon can break their limits and mega evolve or do z moves.
shit, in fact, here's an idea that could work, mix pokemon mystery dungeon with pokemon rangers and create a hybrid of sorts with you as the player growing in power be it psychic or fighting/aura and have pokemon collaborate with your character in similar fashion as they did in pokemon ranger but also able to support you in a mystery dungeon style.
bravo we have a new way to play pokemon, then get good writers and shit to make a proper story and bingo we have a good game...of course to also develop it properly goes unsaid.
