Ive come to realize why exactly I don't like these games anymore and I think its almost entirely the over reliance on story and dialogue. Ever since Sun and Moon these games have been obsessed with bombarding you with text box after text box of just the most inane and boring dialogue of all time. Pokemon games do not, and I almost want to say straight up cannot, have good stories. Period. It's just people talking at you, usually just telling you exactly what youre going to do next as if you weren't already on your way over there, or trauma dumping at you to "progress the story", of which said story never amounts to anything more than Pokemon are cool and awesome and important. All of the characters are completely 1 dimensional and not written with any sort of personality or depth.

Now I don't have a problem with Pokemon stories lacking depth or not being like other JRPGs with epic, engrossing stories that span hours and hours across a large cast of characters. Infact, I like that Pokemon stories are pretty mindless and are just an excuse to go to a couple extra locations and take down a badguy alongside the main quest of completing gyms, it does the trick just fine. My problem is that these newer games act as if they are telling a real story. You get stopped by these incessantly annoying characters at the start and beginning of every route so they can talk to you about fucking nothing, every town and city is a swamp of dialogue and cutscenes, it never fucking ends. People laugh at games like Metal Gear Solid for constantly throwing cutscenes at you but at least those games have an entertaining and well written story(I really dont want to hear it from you anti-Kojima try hards) and at this point Im fairly certain those games have more gameplay than modern Pokemon, at least you can quickly skip the cutscenes in MGS. The cutscene to gameplay ratio in modern Pokemon is completely unreasonable for any JRPG and again it just has NOTHING to say.
Anyone else feel this way?
