Buy? I haven't bought a pokemon game since... Ruby, I think? And that shit was used. I don't even own a switch. Why would I buy a device that I have to rent to connect the internet to and then pay $60 for 1 game? AND I can't mod or inject without doing a bunch of extra work to jailbreak it. Can't speak for anything splatoon if it is worse than this but Pokemon are not full games.

Splatoon is a shooter game. Gameplay is basically 90% online, story mode is really barebone.
When you finish the story mode there wish nothing to do but playing online, so you do just that.
Want to play Salmon run? Whoops sorry we only have to stages. Just wait one whole year until they add a few more.
Want to play a new weapon with a new combination of secondary tools? Whoops just wait a year until they add it.
They take 2 months for the first real update and by that point you already tried everything the game has to offer
