The fact that there are other confounding variables and exceptional individual cases or rarer, more lethal diseases doesn't change the general trend or mechanics of infant mortality, nor its effect on society, the prevalence of genetic conditions, average IQ and moral values, and other things that are overwhelmingly genetically-deterministic.
