when you're reading a chatter's message out loud, you don't need to read the entire thing out word for word, especially long ones. if you can get the gist of "I read your whole message and understand it" across with just two or three words, it's usually better to do that. it feels more natural and keeps things moving forward yknow?
obviously there are exceptions. like if you're literally just trying to fill dead air or doing an honest to God Q&A session, it might be right to read messages back word for word. and superchats are obviously meant to be read aloud in their entirety. also maybe some vtubers have like, language processing difficulties that make them prone to making errors *unless* they read entire messages out loud, which is understandable. but if you can avoid it, I think you should try to. I'll often write a question or joke in chat that ends up derailing the stream for like ten seconds and then I feel a little awkward.
