Honestly, as an "AI fag" myself, I have reached the point where generating images isn't even all that fun for me anymore. The only interesting thing about it to me is training my own models at this point, but I struggle to even test them.
It was fun for a long while, but personally, it is just too uncontrollable for me. I want specific images, not just one that fits some criteria.
I have actually started taking drawing more seriously since then and honestly don't understand the people that feel discouraged from doing art because of AI. It is fundamentally not the same thing, drawing is so much more personal and deliberate, while AI is basically just gacha. Both can be fun, but for different reasons. And if the fact that AI can generate images that look "nicer" than yours discourages you enough to drop art, you were never really interested in it in my opinion, because there will always be someone that can draw better images than you. Having a nice looking image is cool obviously, but the amazing part about drawing is being able to say: "I did this". And this aspect is just not there with generated images. (I think there is a bit more nuance to using AI as a tool of a much larger process, like in collages and such, but let's be honest, 99.999% of people only generate an image and maybe fix a finger or two in photoshop)
Obviously, I fully understand and support professionals that feel that their livelihood is at stake. AI grifters, especially those that make fun of said artists, are absolute scum.
But it's also really weird to attack a place like /vtai/ as a whole, which is completely open about using AI and where people are only doing it for their own entertainment.
