When it comes to layers, you could always move to tools for human people, since you can definitely emulate the style of mspaint brushes in better software. It's understandable if you don't want to though, I have the same type of stubborn autism for CLI tools, so I end up coding in fucking vim half the time even though it gives me no tactical advantage whatsoever.
