Basically, they aren't just close anymore, there's no doubt they are in good terms and probably consider each other's friend, but they aren't what they were before.
Aethel in the other hand, it's still somewhat close to Mouse, but I can see them also not trying to bother in each other's lives. Mouse also talked highly of him a couple of weeks back
