>>18171174Anon you're fucked if you think the vast majority of service members are "mentally enduring". Most work the equivalent of an office or trade job. Actual combat focused jobs are often spending their whole career cleaning weapons if they aren't lucky enough to be in a unit that deploys. The few who do deploy to a combat zone usually dont leave the wire, and will at worst have to hear gunfire in the distance.
the unlucky few who actually do have to go out there can see some insanely fucked up shit, like kids being splattered or actual firefights. it wont hit them in the heat of the moment, but months or years later when they're back home it'll nag them, often until they add to the daily veteran suicide toll.
Or there's the absolute most rare and worst case scenario, you become disabled and have to life the rest of your life not being able to walk/pick shit up/ look or act like a normal human being. Best you'll get is being paraded around as a hero or told to have pride for being "strong enough to face our nations enemies". These guys are usually quickest to end things.
The military being mentally enduring, with a remote chance of being actually dangerous. Its really just blind pride and future regret.
