Another possibility if they're doing multiple viewpoints and multiple different stories is to have her as a villain protagonist type. In order to soften her character they could have it be her goal to protect someone... probably Miko, from all bad people, to a terrifying extent.
If they don't want to soften it, then she just has her own specific goals that she will do anything and everything for, often clashing with some more 'good' type characters in the process, but just as often taking out other villains and bad people.
