Towa is participating in a small apex tournament at the end of this month. It's not like apex is over. A lot of people just isn't happy about the current system, so they don't feel very motivated to play much. If the ranked system gets better, people are likely to play more apex again.

Not to defend the devs because the matchmaking is atrocious and playing against scripters and/or rollers is cancer, but the playerbase is absolutely retarded and can only think in extremes. If the system is slightly favoring surviving, there are 15 teams ratting until round 4. If kills count more during evaluating rank, everyone hotdrops on the first PoI and your rank gets decided by RNG basically. And as I said, there's no inbetween because players want to play the system and not the game because they've been braiwashed to enjoy grinding and equivating their skill level to an imaginary number.

The most common complaints I've heard recently are about the ranked matchmaking being heavily based on your MMR, which is quite dumb imho. Making preds and masters play in lobbies full of preds and masters while their rank is still silver for example makes the ranked system kinda stupid and useless.
I think that most people - at least those I'm aware of - accepted that survival is the most important criterium, but they can't come into terms with the matchmaking system for ranked.
