>>585614The "alt-right" are people who believe that the mainstream media are intentionally lying about various problems society has including the overreach of Big Business into government affairs. They dont believe that mainstream media is a credible or authoritative source of information so they compare and contrast that with alternative media sources and use some logic to "read between the lines" and pose theories as to what is actually going on. While also noticing a striking downward trend in society, and coming to the conclusion that things have changed enough that distasteful things are being allowed to happen in society in broad daylight, which wouldn't have been tolerated at all 50 years before.
The personal research of these people has led to the kinds of conclusions that are often categorized with the Alt-Right label. Which means most of these people are conspiracy theorists, but its only a product of finding inconsistencies in the information they've observed, instead of a kind of escapism formed from wanting "extraordinary" things like aliens to be true.
Alt-Right isnt a group identity its a label describing a series of behaviors.
Two common "memes" found in the Alt-Right group are Pepe and Wojack. Without any insight into their dynamics outsiders usually refer to them as hate symbols but they aren't.
- Wojack represents the type of person who's more mainstream and probably has a job, maybe a well paying one, but because of their curiosity about Alt-Right topics its led them to lend a sympathetic ear or accept the information with a grain of salt. Also somebody who may be mainstream but experienced a significant Financial Loss because of the economy/job and this led them to ask questions about accepted ideas.
- Pepe represents disadvantaged people financially or otherwise who want society to change so they have a better stake in it. These people have stronger belief in the social structure being inherently corrupt at all levels including information
