>>27577I think I've seen this before. I know that PCSX2 needs it in order to run a few games, though you can only use this patch when you're running 32-bit apps on a 64-bit OS. As far as the OP is concerned, his system can only use up to 4GB, and that's if he somehow manages to find 1GB DDR1 modules, so upgrading to a 64-bit OS is kind of pointless... not to mention it would likely be worse for performance and be missing some drivers.
>>27732I'm on autismbux and I still managed to upgrade my Core 2 Duo rig to an Athlon X4 860k. Then again, I'm in Canada, land of free healthcare and other socialist things... But hey, if you can get by with an older PC and make good use of it, I can respect you for that. I know damn well I'm not the most fiscally responsible person, and that I've had to sell things and get by on the kindness of others to survive. It's not something I like to admit, but it is what it is.
Also, I did some research on your board and it looks like it can take up to 4GB of ram. I'm curious as to why your memory is in single channel though. How many sticks of RAM do you have installed? If you have two 1GB sticks, you can easily put them into dual channel for a slight performance boost by putting each one into a slot of a different color, though of course the speed will be restricted by whatever the speed of the slower stick is. More than two sticks, and it can get pretty complicated. If you had four matching sticks installed however, all with the same speed, capacity, and timings, then you wouldn't be having this issue. Three sticks, I'd say you're probably fucked as boards of the time didn't support asymmetric dual channel.
