You know what, I'm just going to recommend going through some classic movies, not that there aren't good movies past this point, but to get a taste of things just don't watch anything past the early 2000's. My top recommendation though is to watch the Simpsons, it is a great caricature of America and pop culture at large, at least the early seasons are.
