Use uBlock Origin in medium mode or harder. Make sure it's Origin and that it's updated. If you're going to use it by itself, I recommend hard or nightmare mode. Read its wiki Learn to unbreak sites with it properly and then click the lock icon to save the settings. Yes, this will fucking suck at first. You can couple it with uMatrix, making things even more complicated. Don't, however, use any other blockers with it. This is important. You can add additional lists to uBO instead.
Don't use any antivirus. The one Windows 10 comes with is the best you can get. Windows is malware, of course, but a lot of other antivirus solutions are no better, being privacy nightmares that don't really help at all, unless you're using them to scan years old cracked software.
The best protection for your use case comes from an up to date, current and hardened browser running on an up to date, current operating system. If you don't need Windows for its software compatibility, I recommend trying a Linux distro instead. Perhaps utilize a virtual machine if you find yourself checking out shady sites.
Ungoogled chromium might not be the best choice for security, but I respect your choice if you chose it specifically.
Can you describe this malware? What gives it away, or what makes you believe you're getting it? What does the antivirus say, exactly? A reinstall might be in order, or at least a browser reinstall with a fresh profile.
