From season 2 Cole is the only normal person, with JC behind him only because she's young and functional in life, despite being a nutcase under it; the other eight fish dabbled with drugs (prescripted, acid, MDMA) except for Shinji, had some sort or a collection of traumatic episodes except for Brian (still a fent fiend for a while) and had a social handicap that would make them break — basically eight Sylvias, one Letty and a lean Mauro willing to play along the show instead of sleeping around all day.
In my opinion, S1 had people with more stable lifes compared to S2. The problem with the former's fish was that they weren't pushed hard enough despite being able to take it, whereas the latter's cast was more brittle, yet were pushed harder.
