The fact the Rotomdex can speak, understand, and communicate in the human language implies that any Pokemon more intelligent than it is capable of at least understanding anything a human could, and as you noted they're not animals, they're magical fantasy creatures, some of them GET TELEPATHY which means they are FULLY CAPABLE OF COMMUNICATION VIA THOUGHTS, which removes all language barriers because it can communicate intent or concepts rather than simply words.
Pokemon are sapient, and between the core games, mystery dungeon (where they have FUCKING SOCIETIES AND CAPITALISM by the way), the anime, the various manga, and the movies, we have hard proof that humans and pokemon can communicate, understand each other, and are mental equals on average (obviously, you have outliers - more intelligent pokemon, literally retarded humans, no different than IRL). So unless your pokemon is a downie there's no issues here.
