>>23979369The chart makes it seem like there have been no major gold discoveries since 2023 but there's still a lot of gold being found. A lot of the gold being discovered is nearby mines or projects with +2Moz because that's where most gold tends to be found, next to the big deposits. Brownfield discoveries are much more common to begin with, and there are many yet unbuilt projects that have had +2Moz already and keep discovering more.
Then there are discoveries that are just not yet reflected in resource estimates. Awale and Collective are two examples that immediately come to my mind. Both have easily over 2Moz but no officual resource estimates yet.
Also pretty sure Endeavour's Assafou project should be considered a new major discovery made in 2023. Back in 2022 that project only had a maiden resource of 1.1Moz Indicated (+ 1.9Moz Inferred but Inferred is probably not counted due to its uncertainty). A year later in 2023 they updated the resource estimate to 4.5Moz Indicated. So I'm not sure if that chart is even trustworthy.
