>>9553161I'm an apprentice truck mechanic, I know a lot of drivers and most of them would do it all over again but I would offer you some advice anon, make sure you take care of yourself mentally and physically. Do not smoke, do not buy junk food and eat properly. A lot of guys are completely fucked because of their vices and don't give a shit about themselves but they are all still nice fellas, the loneliness can really ruin you badly and forever. Our industry might not be around for much longer but automation will never replace a good driver especially on ice and here in the outback of Aussie (If you're good enough you can usually find a truck company that will sponsor you to do linehaul and roadtrains). Considering you're in America see if you can open/concealed carry, there are a lot of fucking cowboys that will try and fuck with you too.
Kenworths are gorgeous truck but the auto Kennies drive like shit, Euro trucks are a dream to drive but over complicated shitboxes, just like a luxury euro car but for the love of God get a manual truck license you will go a lot further in the industry. A little bit of care and love for your truck and trailers go a long way and will give you big brownie points with the mechanics, it just makes our life easier.
If you take the plunge anon, I wish you every single good fortune in the world and safe travelling until you retire. Please just take care of yourself and never push yourself to fatigue, for the love of all things holy do not take amphetamines
