And yes, the manga in which it's based off of is still ongoing.

I'm sure that when the early pioneers began making their push out west, they didn't really have any fucking clue as to what they would encounter. Or the adventurers that wanted to reach the south pole first. That one especially can be analogous to wanting to reaching the Abyss's bottom. Though at least with Riko there's actually something precious to her waiting.
